Thirtyish inmate Martin Kurath (Jurgen Prochnow) unexpectedly finds love behinds bars with Thomas Manzoni (Ernst Hannawald) -- the teenage son of a prison staffer -- in director Wolfgang Petersen's riveting drama. After Martin's release, he and Thomas attempt to build a happy life together but face persecution and public condemnation at every turn. Based on a true story, the film also stars Elisabeth Fricker and Hans Putz.
A fantastic gay film from Germany, "Die Konsequenz" is made in 1977, however, the film is ageless, I never felt it was an old movie! This film can be compared to Brokeback Mountain and Milk, it is groundbreaking, realistic, romantic and sad. Highly recommended!
